In the heart of Mexico City’s historic centre, Círculo Mexicano demonstrates that heritage is something to inhabit rather than admire from a distance. Created by Grupo Habita inside a nineteenth-century residential building, the hotel respects its architectural history while introducing an entirely contemporary way of living. Instead of treating the building as a monument frozen in time, architects Ambrosi Etchegaray carefully restored its original structure and transformed it into a place where history, commerce, hospitality, and daily life once again coexist. The result feels remarkably authentic—less like a hotel inserted into a historic building than a historic building discovering a new purpose.

Minimalism with Warmth

Arranged around a traditional central courtyard, the hotel’s 18 guestrooms and seven suites embrace an understated aesthetic inspired by Shaker simplicity. Natural timber, Oaxacan textiles, handcrafted finishes, and custom furniture by Mexican design studio La Metropolitana create interiors that feel calm without ever becoming cold. Decorative elements are intentionally restrained, allowing craftsmanship, proportion, and materiality to take centre stage. Luxury here isn’t expressed through excess, but through beautifully considered simplicity.

A Rooftop Above the City’s History

The true highlight lies above. Hidden from the busy streets below, the rooftop combines a swimming pool, restaurant, and bar with one of the finest panoramic views in Mexico City. From here, guests look directly across to the Metropolitan Cathedral, the National Palace, and the ancient ruins of Templo Mayor—an extraordinary meeting point of Aztec and colonial history. It’s a space that perfectly captures Grupo Habita’s philosophy: relaxed, social, and deeply connected to its surroundings.
