Cour des Vosges occupies one of the most exceptional positions in Paris. Set at number 19 Place des Vosges, the hotel looks directly across the symmetrical gardens, arcades, and ochre-red façades of the city’s oldest planned square. The seventeenth-century building once belonged to a world of nobility, literature, and private townhouses. That sense of privilege remains. But it is expressed quietly.

With only 12 rooms and suites, Cour des Vosges feels closer to a private home than a conventional luxury property. Guests enter through an understated door into a candlelit courtyard and central staircase lined with paintings, objects, and vintage books. Centuries in Conversation

Designers Lecoadic-Scotto preserve the building’s historic architecture while introducing elements from a completely different era. Exposed beams, painted timber ceilings, terracotta floors, tapestries, and carved stone sit beside stainless steel four-poster beds, black marble, mirrored cabinetry, and sculptural 1970s furniture. Soft plaster tones and richly tactile fabrics hold the contrasts together. Old and new never compete. They make one another more visible.

Rooms Framed by the Square

Every room and suite overlooks Place des Vosges. Lower-floor rooms retain some of the building’s most expressive historic details, including monumental beams and restored ceilings, while upper levels offer library-like sitting rooms and elevated views across the slate rooftops. Art books rise in tall stacks, crystal decanters sit on vintage bar carts, and some suites conceal compact kitchenettes behind mirrored doors. Bathrooms include either walk-in showers or striking steel soaking tubs. The atmosphere is cocooning. Almost secretive.

Quiet Rituals Below and Above

Cour des Vosges deliberately avoids the facilities of a palace hotel. There is no large spa or formal restaurant. Instead, relaxation takes place in the atmospheric Roman bath beneath the stone arches, available privately on request, or through treatments delivered in the guestrooms. Breakfast arrives on a silver tray, while the small Brach-La Pâtisserie salon de thé serves pastries, light dishes, and Yann Brys creations overlooking the square. Hospitality feels personal. Never overperformed.
