Few hotels ask you to arrive by panoramic lift before spending the night suspended 35 to 45 metres above the ground. Faralda Crane Hotel occupies one of Amsterdam’s most recognisable industrial landmarks—a monumental harbour crane that once served the NDSM Shipyard. Rather than demolishing this piece of maritime history, developer Edwin Kornmann Rudi transformed it into one of the world’s most remarkable boutique hotels, preserving the crane’s raw engineering while introducing an entirely new purpose. Industrial Heritage Meets High Design

The transformation was as ambitious as the concept itself. Following a meticulous three-year restoration, the original crane structure was carefully rebuilt, while striking contemporary steel additions were integrated without compromising its industrial character. Every exposed beam, welded connection, and mechanical detail remains proudly visible, creating an authentic dialogue between engineering and architecture. Split over two levels, each suite combines a spacious living area below with a dramatic bedroom above, suspended high above the city. Modern technology—including climate control, integrated entertainment systems, and luxurious bathrooms—sits comfortably alongside the building’s raw industrial framework.
