Hotel Mono takes an unexpected approach to heritage. Occupying six early 20th-century conservation shophouses on historic Mosque Street, the hotel deliberately avoids nostalgic recreations. Instead, local practice Spacedge Designs stripped the interiors back to their architectural essentials, creating a striking dialogue between the richly ornamented historic façades and calm contemporary spaces within. History remains visible. The design looks confidently forward.

The Power of Monochrome

The hotel’s identity revolves around one deceptively simple idea. White walls, black architectural elements, and carefully controlled natural light create interiors that feel graphic yet remarkably calm. At the centre of every room is a custom black steel structure that changes function depending on the space, becoming lighting, wardrobe, sculpture, room divider, or even staircase. It is both practical and architectural—a single gesture that defines the entire hotel. Nothing feels unnecessary. Every element earns its place.

Rooms with Individual Character

Because the original shophouses remain intact, no two rooms are exactly alike. Historic windows, exposed beams, varying ceiling heights, and unusual floor plans ensure each space has its own personality. Carefully chosen design classics, including Eero Aarnio’s iconic Ball Chair, reinforce the contemporary aesthetic while introducing moments of playful contrast against the otherwise restrained interiors. Luxury feels intelligent. The architecture shapes every stay.

The City as Your Living Room

Hotel Mono intentionally keeps its own facilities to a minimum. Without restaurants or extensive amenities, the neighbourhood naturally becomes an extension of the guest experience. Maxwell Food Centre, Chinatown’s markets, Ann Siang Hill, Keong Saik Road, independent galleries, cocktail bars, and countless local restaurants are all just a short walk away, allowing guests to experience Singapore as residents rather than spectators.
