Between Palace and Factory

Few locations could tell the story of Łódź more effectively. PURO Łódź Centrum stands directly opposite the exuberant Neo-Baroque Poznański Palace and beside Manufaktura, the vast red-brick textile factory complex that has been transformed into a cultural and commercial district. One represents the wealth created by Łódź’s industrial boom. The other represents the factories that powered it. PURO sits between them. Designed by ASW Architekci, its contemporary glass façade literally reflects both worlds.

SuperFutures Reads the City

London studio SuperFutures took the same duality inside. Łódź is industrial, but it is also creative. Raw concrete and black steel establish the architectural backbone, while timber, brass and gold-toned details add warmth. Against this sit pieces by Carl Hansen & Søn, GUBI, Muuto, Moroso, Magis, Fogia, Fredericia, Kettal, and Verpan. Colourful Kasthall rugs bring a more graphic quality underfoot. It is post-industrial without becoming predictable. Retro without becoming nostalgic.

A Corridor of Experiences

The building’s long, narrow L-shaped footprint became part of the design concept. Rather than fight it, SuperFutures created what the studio describes as a continuous journey, arranging the café, lounge, bar, and other communal spaces along the street-facing edge. Natural light enters where it matters most. Spaces flow into one another. The result feels more like a sequence of urban rooms than a conventional hotel lobby.

Łódź on Film

Then there is the cinema. It could easily have been a gimmick. Here, it makes perfect sense. Łódź has one of Europe’s great filmmaking traditions and is home to its celebrated film school. PURO acknowledges that legacy with an intimate in-house cinema hosting screenings and events. Film continues throughout the interiors through photography, posters, illustration, and graphic art. This is not generic hotel storytelling. It belongs specifically to Łódź.

The Avant-Garde Checks In

The art collection goes deeper still. Local artists and designers were commissioned to interpret the city’s creative history, including its remarkable interwar avant-garde. Illustrations by Ola Niepsuj and Bartosz Kosowski reference pioneering artists Katarzyna Kobro and Władysław Strzemiński. A large-scale mural by Illcat and Maciej Polak brings cinematic drama to the staircase. In the seven suites, contemporary kilims and handwoven pieces by Łódź studio Tartaruga reconnect the interiors with the city’s textile-making DNA. The result is a hotel where local culture is not reduced to decoration. It informs the entire experience.

130 Rooms, Quieter by Design

The 130 rooms, including seven suites, step away from the visual energy downstairs. They are modern and relatively minimal, with warm materials, clean geometry, contemporary artwork, and Hilding mattresses. But even here, Łódź remains present. Commissioned illustrations and textile pieces ensure the transition from public space to bedroom does not erase the hotel’s sense of place. It simply lowers the volume.

Spirit Above the Palace

The rooftop Spirit Bar provides the finale. Its terrace looks directly across to the ornate Poznański Palace—a wonderful visual collision between 19th-century industrial wealth and contemporary Łódź. Cocktails and DJ sessions give it genuine evening energy rather than treating the rooftop as another hotel amenity. Below, the hotel’s original food concepts included Asian-inspired Miska Gastro Bowls and Biotiful Healthy Snack Lab, while PRISMA Spa provides the quieter counterpoint.

Why It Works

PURO Łódź Centrum succeeds because it understands that the city’s identity cannot be reduced to red brick and factories. Łódź is also film, textiles, avant-garde art, reinvention, and a younger generation rediscovering the creative value of its industrial past. SuperFutures brings those threads together without turning them into a theme. Add the commissioned local art, woven textiles, private cinema, and that extraordinary view across to Poznański Palace, and this becomes something more interesting than another well-designed PURO. It feels unmistakably Łódź.
