Scattered across Amsterdam, each suite occupies a former bridge keeper’s house—small architectural landmarks that once played an essential role in keeping the city’s waterways moving. Built between 1673 and 2009, these tiny buildings stood empty after bridge operations became fully automated. Rather than letting them disappear into history, Dutch architecture studio Space&Matter transformed them into one of the world’s most original hotel concepts. The city itself becomes the hotel.

Some reflect the charm of seventeenth-century canal architecture, while others embrace the clean lines of Modernism or the functional elegance of late twentieth-century Dutch design.
