Wren Urban Nest

Hidden on a narrow lane between Grafton Street and Temple Bar, Wren Urban Nest was conceived as a model for the future of urban hospitality. The nine-storey hotel contains 137 guestrooms within a remarkably compact footprint, yet its environmental ambitions are anything but modest. It was designed to meet the World Green Building Council’s definition of Net Zero Operational Carbon without relying on purchased offsets. The footprint is small. The vision is expansive.

Architecture That Reuses Energy

BDP approached the building as a complete environmental system. Its faceted façade reflects daylight into the street while carefully positioned glazing captures heat from the sun. Energy collected on one side of the hotel can be transferred to rooms on the opposite elevation, while air-source and water-to-water heat pumps provide heating, cooling, and hot water without burning fossil fuels. Even rejected heat is reused. Nothing is allowed to go to waste.

Compact Luxury, Carefully Considered

The guestrooms turn limited space into an advantage. Built-in beds, integrated storage, soft lighting, and carefully planned circulation ensure that every element earns its place. Interiors by 21 Spaces combine warm natural textures with contemporary Irish furniture, accessories, and craftsmanship, creating rooms that feel intimate rather than restricted. Small does not mean basic. Restraint becomes refinement.

Irish Design from Brand to Bed

Local identity is woven throughout the hotel. Irish makers, suppliers, and craftspeople contribute furniture, textiles, decorative objects, food, and drink, allowing the experience to remain rooted in Dublin rather than adopting an anonymous international style. The public spaces continue this approach with relaxed seating, warm materials, and an atmosphere suited equally to breakfast, work, or conversation. The design feels contemporary. The character feels local.

A Hotel with Urban Responsibility

Wren’s sustainability strategy extends beyond its mechanical systems. A green roof supports biodiversity and natural cooling, while the ventilation system recovers 81% of otherwise wasted heat. Local sourcing reduces transport, food waste is redistributed through Too Good To Go, and the building produces no local pollution from fossil-fuel combustion. The hotel takes less from the city. It gives more thought in return.
